RER, Date of Publication: Apr 19, 2017

The Norwegian Electronics Industry Report provides essential market intelligence for all sizes of company from small enterprises to major global groups and for financial/management consultancies, government agencies and academia requiring a reliable overview of the electronics industry in Norway.

In 2015, output for the Norwegian electronics industry increased by 1.9%, with equipment output increasing by 1.4% and components by 8.4%. This compared to growth of 1.8% a year earlier and a decline of 0.5% in 2013.  Growth is forecast to show a further modest increase of 1.6% in 2016 before increasing to 2.3% in 2017, growth over the period being partly subdued by the weakness in the offshore oil and gas industry. Growth in communications and radar following an increase of 2.2% in 2015 eased to 0.7% in 2016 but is forecast to pick-up in 2017 and report growth of 2.0%. In contrast telecommunications output fell by 7.3% in 2015 but is forecast to show a similar growth pattern to communications and radar in 2016 and 2017. The computer industry in Norway accounted for 6.6% of electronics output in 2016 production declining by 5.4%, this after the prior year’s growth of 6.3%. Output is forecast to show a further decline of 3.0% in 2017 a trend which is expected to continue throughout the period to 2020. Products for Norway's important offshore oil and gas sector have created major opportunities for electronics in the field of control and instrumentation and as a result this sector has become increasingly well-established on the international market. Production increased by 3.0% in 2015, following growth of 4.5% in 2014. In 2016, output was impacted by weaker exports and subdued demand domestically resulting in production posting a modest decline of 0.4%. Output is expected to rebound in 2017 with growth of 2.7% and then post annual growth of around 3-4% over the period to 2020. The sector overall accounted for 46.5% of total electronics output in 2016.
